SelfIMAGES is a small site for an undergraduate English class on new media, hypertext, and the history/transformation of the "document." We used Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as a central focus point to discuss the issues of creativity + creation, power and free will, as well as the unwanted + unseen consequences of making new technologies.
In this site, I imagine Victor's Creature has escaped to Chile and is spending his time reflecting
on creation, human endeavors, and what he could possibly symbolize
(technology, use of science, of good and bad, the creative drive
and search for perfection and knowledge). The pages also touch
on the issues of writing and creating; contrasts and symbols found
in the stories such light/dark, cold/warm, man/nature.
I've written that the Creature is interested in
poetry, partly because of my interests, but also because poetry
is another written form of communication and writing. It fuses sound
and image and story together and seems an interesting addition to
the Creature's intellectual interests.
